Tianjin, 2009, edition of 10
In 2009 I photographed a street butcher in Tianjin. On a road trip to Texas in 2010 I discovered Annibale Carracci’s ‘The Butchers, Bologna’ from 1582 in the Kimbell. Same subject, same viewpoint, but 400 years apart and on opposite sides of the world. A perfect conjunction of man and meat. Included in the exhibition ‘They’re all Hybrids’, curated by Michelle Jacques of the AGO, at Propeller Gallery, 2011.
